YOU NEED MORE POSTAGE:  The U.S. Postal Service is raising postage by one cent to 45 cents as of Jan. 22.  Check the weight of your bulky entries at the Post Office in the beginning since they may be returned for insufficient postage if you have too many pages. Check to see how many pages 45 cents will cover. You can avoid this problem by entering our shows on line (see below).  See the April prize list when it is published on the Calendar page.

If  you do not already have a user account with www.EquestrianEntries.com , as a first time user, you can get $5 off your first paid on-line entry submission.  Enter FIRSTENTRY in the Coupon Code section.  There is no charge to join EquestrianEntries or to create and print and entry. So if you choose to print your entry, pay by personal check and mail it yourself, the service is free. If you pay on line with a credit card or Paypal account, there is a 3% fee plus a $5 handling charge.  On line entries are eligible for Perfekt Paket Refund if everything is complete on first receipt. Be careful, the on-line entry is a work in progress and not all features may comply with Perfekt Paket requirements.  The signed signature page and Coggins must be mailed in with the entry to be eligible.

NON-COMPETING RIDERS:  Riders who are not entered in the show but need to get on horses which are entered must submit a filled-out and signed entry form listing the horses they are planning to ride—unless they are signed as trainer or coach on the horses they want to ride. There is no charge for this. They must also sign the entry form for a non-competing horse if they are not the entered rider, trainer or coach. They must comply with show and USEF regulations.

UPDATED HELMET RULE FOR GHF SHOWS: USEF Rule  (DR120.1) requires that secured protective headgear (as defined in DR120.5) must be worn by all competitors in tests 4th level and below and all juniors who have not reached their 18th birthday in USEF and FEI-Level tests. This show also requires secured protective headgear on all riders on horses age six years and younger.  Adult riders performing Prix St. Georges through Grand Prix tests only may wear the headgear permitted in their test or must wear protective headgear AT ALL TIMES while riding on the grounds and in their tests—exception: riders wearing anything other than secured protective headgear must go straight from their stall to the warm-up, to the competition ring and back to stall—or dismount.  Casual riding is allowed only in secured protective headgear.  These rules apply to ship-in days prior to and after the show, and after show hours. Bare heads and casual hats are not allowed. This regulation will be strictly enforced and warning cards may be issued.  Click here for  Headgear Rules Details

SCHOOLING SHOWS, TOO--New USEF helmet guidelines will be observed at all GHF schooling shows.

NIGHT WATCH:  Dennis Boggs is our permanent night watch person. His cell number is 770-855-7403.  He can open camper sites as well as help with other stabling issues.  Dennis also offers personal care such as giving feed and water for an additional fee.  Please call Dennis for information about this.

USEF CHANGES SHOW FEES:  The USEF "drug" fee has been increased from $15 to $16 for 2012.  See the official rulings below:

GR208 Competition Fees [Chapter 2 Membership Categories and Requirements, Subchapter 2-D Federation Fees and Dues] 430-11 effective 12/1/11
1. For every horse participating in any competition licensed by the Federation, a $1516 Federation fee will be collected ($7 8 shall be an Equine Drugs and Medication fee to provide for research, inspection, and enforcement of rules regarding use of medications and drugs; see GR407.1, .2 and .3). Exception: Horses entered in classes exempted from the Equine Drugs and Medication fee are also exempt from the balance of the Federation fee.
2. The following fees may be paid by competitors when applying for membership at a competition: any fees as provided in GR206, GR207, GR208.1, GR1307.3, and GR1309.2b.

GR407 Management Procedures [Chapter 4 Drugs and Medications] 387-11 effective 12/1/11
1. To provide funds for research, inspection and enforcement of rules regarding use of medications and drugs, each Licensed Competition, except where prohibited by law, must assess the exhibitors a fee of $7 8 for each horse and/or pony entered in the competition, except the fee shall be  $15 20 for each horse entered in an FEI sanctioned class or competition in the U.S. or a USEF High Cap Computer List Class. Participants in the following classes are exempted from payment: a. leadline b. exhibitions c. games and races, d. classes for 4-H members, e. Academy classes. H
owever, these classes are not exempt from the Drugs and Medications Chapter itself. Within 10 days after a competition, competition management must forward to the Federation a sum representing the above fee times the number of horses and/or ponies entered in the nonexempt classes of the competition plus the number of horses and/or ponies scratched where the fee is not refunded, such sum to be held by the Federation in a separate fund for use to accomplish the purpose set forth above.

FALL OF HORSE OR RIDER:  A new USEF rule eliminates a horse and rider after a fall during a dressage test.

NO BICYCLES:  Bicycles and other non-motorized vehicles are not allowed around the show barns or arenas during the show for the safety of riders.  While most people are considerate and understand the volatile nature of horses, it is the few ignorant or thoughtless adults or children who can hurt someone.  Golf carts are available for rent at the shavings hut.

USEF Safety Committee Reminders:

The USEF Safety Committee would like to remind competition management and officials of the importance of enforcing General Rule 1301.6, which states that "Dogs are not permitted to be loose on competition grounds and must be on a leash or otherwise contained. Individuals must not lead dogs on a leash while mounted. Dog owners failing to comply with this rule may be subject to penalty under Chapters 6 and 7, as well as issuance of warning cards." This rule is important in keeping all participants safe while at a USEF competition.

The USEF Return to Competition Rule (GR1317) has been successfully implemented since April, 2009. The Safety Committee asks for competition managements’ and officials’ continued support and diligence in enforcing this rule: Whenever a competitor sustains a possible concussion or loss of consciousness at a USEF competition, he or she should be reported to USEF by no later than 6 p.m. the day following the end of the competition (whether a medical release note has been obtained by that time or not). The competitor will be placed on the USEF Medical Suspension List (which is located on the USEF website with the regular Suspension Search, or by following this link:  Medical Suspensions ) and is not permitted to compete further at the same or any future competitions until an appropriate medical release document has been submitted to the USEF. If there are any questions about this rule, please contact Leigh Anne Claywell at Leigh Anne Claywell , 859-225-6959 .

(4) It is strongly recommended that scribes and apprentice judges not compete before

(5) First-time scribes must not be assigned to foreign judges or judges for FEI level

classes.

(6) Scribes. Only one scribe to be provided for the judging panel for the FEI Dressage

2011 USEF Dressage Rules

OPPORTUNITY CLASSES:  This is a new USEF/USDF division for entry-level competitors to have a chance to experience a dressage competition on payment of the regular $35 Training Level class fee but without the burden of the other usually required federation/association fees. Ribbons to sixth place will be given.  These classes are permitted under the USEF requirements for a Level 3 competition, which this show is.  These classes are in Training Level and carry an X in the computer code (See Class Lists on Page 8). Riders in these classes only do not have to be USDF or USEF members, do not have to pay the non-member fees.  Horses entered in these classes do not have to be registered with either USDF or USEF and the owners do not have to pay the USDF Horse ID fee. Horses/riders may not be cross-entered into any other class or division in this show and must pay all other show fees and must comply with all USEF rules. (See GR821.8)

USDF/USEF SHOWS TO BE RATED BY LEVELS:  USEF has instituted a program of rating dressage competitions.  Every show will be given a levels rating.  The GHF/CGF shows are Level 3.   To see the criteria, click on this link:
Dressage Levels Chart.

SATURDAY/SUNDAY CHECK-IN:  Competitors who are arriving with their horses on Saturday or Sunday must go to the show office to check in and receive their packets before unloading horses--their horses must have a bridle number on their halters before being unloaded on show days.  Their stalls will be locked. The show secretary will make the stall key available to the late check-ins on request.

OVERSTRIDE NOW REQUIRED FOR FREE WALK:  USEF changes the rule for free walk: DR103 The Walk. [Chapter DR. Dressage Division] Effective 4/1/09: . . . 4. d. Free Walk. The free walk is a pace of relaxation in which the horse is allowed complete freedom to lower and stretch out his head and neck. The degree of ground cover and length of strides, with hind feet stepping clearly in front of the footprints of the front feet, are essential to the quality of the free walk.
Note: Overstride has always been required for Medium Walk, but not for Collected Walk.

NEW USEF SAFETY RULE--GR1317.2:  In the event of a fall/accident where the competitor is apparently unconscious or concussed, he/she is precluded from competing until evaluated by qualified medical personnel as defined in GR1211.5. If the competitor refuses to be evaluated, he is disqualified from the competition. USEF now maintains a list of "medical suspensions."

TRAILER PARKING--Competitors may park their trailers in the lot next to Barn 6, the main show barn--unless posted signs indicate otherwise--or if there is a big tent there--a real indication of otherwise!  Cars and trucks may park in the "retail" parking lot across the road, but trailers are not allowed to park in that lot.

BREAKFAST--The Concessions stand opens at 7 a.m. each day for breakfast.  Hawthorn Suites offers a hot breakfast which is served starting at 6:30 a.m.

SCHEDULING STRATEGY:  GHF show management does its best to schedule the show in a way that will produce the best results for the riders.  Most horses perform best when they are very familiar with their surroundings which is why our shows are scheduled so that horses stay in the same arena for the entire competition and the judges are changed. It is our intent for riders to perform for one judge on Saturday and a different judge on Sunday. However, sometimes it is necessary for riders who are competing in two levels to be scheduled in different arenas.  Also, we try to schedule the easiest test first and not to schedule one ride early in the morning and your second ride late in the afternoon—though sometimes that is unavoidable.  It is our intention for you to ride in front of at least two judges during the weekend and to avoid uncomfortable scheduling conflicts.

SHARPS CONTAINERS: There are special red plastic boxes at the end of the aisles in the barns for the sole purpose of collecting needles and other similar medical wastes as per USEF GR1210.4 and Georgia Law.

USEF RULES
The good news is that USEF has discontinued the "affidavit" and the dressage discipline fee.  The bad news is that riders/owners/trainers/coaches who do not include their current USEF membership card with their entry form and do not have it when they get to the show will have to pay the new $30 USEF non-member fee--no excuses. The $30 fee applies to all--juniors and seniors.  USDF rules, however, are different (see below).
DRUG FEE:  The USEF association fee collected for each horse in the show has been increased to $15 which includes $7 for the drugs and medications program.
CLARIFICATION: On your dressage test score sheet, one of the score descriptions has changed: a score of 5 now indicates a "marginal" performance instead of a  "sufficient" performance.
LONGER WHIPS:  Riders now may carry one whip no longer than 47.2".  See the  for complete details--there is more to know.

USDF NON-MEMBER FEEThe show management will collect a fee of $25 per show for each USDF non-member rider/owner/lessee. The fee will be submitted along with the USDF Report of Fees document.  A $5 affidavit fee will be collected if the person does not provide a copy of their USDF non-member card which they may download from the USDF website. (For persons applying for the first time for a non-member number the $5 affidavit fee is not required.) Owners/lessees or riders exempt from the non-member number requirements are also exempt from the USDF non-member fee.

ENTRY FORM:  Is is very important that riders use only the entry form and signature page found in the current GHF prize list for the show being entered. This is especially true for the signature page since USEF often changes the legal wording in the document that must be signed by every competitor.

FARRIER/VET BUILDING:  There is now a new building that has been constructed to house the activities of the show’s veterinarians and farriers. It is located near Barn 5 (next to Pavilion building).  Please tell the vet or farrier about this facility so that you can meet them there.  Vets must not park next to barn/stall in the fire lane.

Please do not move your stall charts for horse or tack stalls. If you have a stabling problem, please contact the show office.  There may be stallions and mares with issues and we sometimes position tack stalls to protect them.
